Apparently, all the action at Web 2.0 Expo New York wasn’t in the exhibit hall at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center last week, it was in the talks. Missed them? Find them here: web2expo.blip.tv.
The Consortium List Recommends (Week of November 23)
Since not everybody is already out of town yet for the Thanksgiving Holiday, here are a few ideas on what you could do before then:
- BBQ Thanksgiving Tweetup: Monday night, 7 PM, Dinosaur BBQ (How could I pass up on an opportunity to hang with friends and eat barbecue so close to my apartment? There is a reservation, but maybe, we can squeeze you in.)
- TweetsGiving: Tuesday night, 7 PM, Roger Smith Hotel (Your ticket to this evening, of food, friends, and fun will support the work of Epic Change, a nonprofit supporting social entrepreneurs.)
- NYLON Magazine presents the Official After Party of the OP Tour: Tuesday night, 10 PM (Hosted by Cobra Starship and Boys Like Girls, music will be supplied by DJ Josh Madden and drinks will be courtesy of MGD64 and Hornitos Tequila; ask me about an invitation.)
- Erin and Her Cello presents The Rockwood Residency: Friday night, 7 PM, Rockwood Music Hall (Erin and Her Cello will be performing free this Friday; there’ll be new songs and special guests.)
It’s a short list at the moment, but I’m sure there’ll be more to add later in the week. Stay tuned to Paint The Town Red and @mcaldecutt on Twitter for updates.

Moby immediately attracted a crowd when he took to the DJ booth at the front of the Wired Store in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District last night.

Wired magazine welcomed friends and fans of the magazine to its temporary Fifth Annual WIRED Store in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District last night, a space occupied by Phillips de Pury & Company for an off-site preview of the Modern and Contemporary Editions only a week ago.
During the slightly more than three-hour bash, Publisher Howard Mittman greeted friends and fans of the magazine, including Moby (who deejayed), actor Chris Noth, actress Alexis Bledel, the “Shamwow guy” Vince Shlomi, Mouth of the Border’s Emily Cavalier, Sternberg Strategic Communications’ Josh Sternberg, blogger Sarah Merion, HS Dominion’s Damien Basile, Unit 7’s Meredith Berke, Coach’s Julia Roy, The New York Times’ Jenna Wortham (a Wired alumna), the “Internet’s music teacher” Walt Ribeiro, Klickable.tv’s Roger Wu, freelance writer Andrew Graham, blogger Chris O’Leary, and Kitten Couture’s Kimmie Smith.
In addition to the Wired-themed cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres, guests also got a chance to check out some of the “cutting-edge” technology and design, the latest in games and gaming, new music and books, “hot” new gear and gadgets, “indoor and outdoor inspiration,” and products to help consumers “lead a greener life” assembled by the magazine for sale in the store if they could get through the crowds to see them (I’ll more than likely be taking another trip there to see what I couldn’t during the opening last night.).

Designer Pages hosted the IDNY meetup yesterday evening at luxury bathroom fixtures manufacturer Duravit’s showroom (Here’s a fun fact; I used to work at the public-relations firm which listed Duravit as a client). The evening began with cocktails, appetizers, and, of course, networking.
Shawn Brown, design director of NY Projects, began the evening’s presentations, sharing some insights about collaborating on limited edition design collections with some of the international design world’s biggest names such as Zaha Hadid.
Then, it was time for the the featured speaker of the night, Todd Schliemann, Polshek Partnership designer partner and architect of The Standard, New York. He presented an overview of the process that went into the design of the hotel and showing what a good sport he is, he recommended stopping by the High Line Park on Saturdays around 10:30 PM to get “a good view.” (I wonder what he was talking about.)
